SEO – Absolute or Relative URL’s?

I have run into a question that nobody seems to have the correct answer to, so I wanted to take a poll from all of my SEO-minded colleagues. Which is better for internal linking for SEO, absolute URLs (http://www.url.com/aboutus.html) or relative URLs (/aboutus.html)? Feel free to leave a link to a credible source in the comments.

I don’t really think it is a huge deal. I picked absolute, since it makes more sense to give the full URL. However, I do believe the search engines are smart enough to be able to read a relative URL the same as an absolute URL, so I do not think it matters. I would be interested to see a study on it though.
